Color Theory… one of the most interesting tools of a mosaicist is mastering the use of color, and its properties. Do you know that each color has its own wavelength? Understanding this principle will help you to judge how much of each color can be comfortably used in your composition with the result being a harmonious work of art. And can’t we all use just a bit more harmony in our lives!....

Jazz it Up!

“Global Priorities Project” …. How can we make this world better for future generations? Make our voices heard? I think it is collectively, as a group. Thus our annual exhibition, Global Priorities was born....Each artist, along with submitting their mosaic has provided a statement on how their creation reflects a global priority. We publish these statements and they are hung next to the mosaics they represent, as well as online. Our long term goal is to publish a book on the “Global Priorities Project” at which time we would like to have an international exhibition of the selected works from the annual exhibitions, finding a home where decisions may be influenced by our statements. Start creating now, let your voice be heard ! ……………………………………………………….. Allan Punton’s “Not Waving, but Drowning” makes a statement on the plight of the artic polar bears, whom are losing their homes as we speak through global warming. He has requested that the proceeds from his work be donated to the World Wildlife Fund. You can become part of this and take a chance on owning Alan’s work by purchasing a raffle ticket, the drawing will be held at the closing of the exhibition January 8, 2010! Available online through our supply store! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Many more learned men than I have expressed the opinion, that an artist’s work should reflect the social change that they see necessary in the world. The Catholic church has used iconography and imagery throughout the ages to get their word out. It is but a very few people who would not recognize an image of the virgin, and her baby, Jesus. Karl Marx’s statement on artists, stressed that we have a debt to society, to render the world’s inequities and point them out, so that they not be ignored. These are just a few of the ways that artists have been called to serve ……………………………………………………………………………. Our exhibition this year, truly exceeded all the expectations, you can view it online or come into the gallery. The work which, was entered was exceptional, the technical expertise was notable. And the end result was phenomenal. I am joyful to walk into the Academy each day to be surrounded with this work, and the moral values that they represent. This exhibition is on exhibition at the Academy’s gallery through January 8, 2010. We are open Tuesday through Friday from 12 to 4, and Saturdays from 10 to 2 for studio hours, where you can come in to work on a project, or just view the exhibition. We will be closed Dec. 22-Jan1. Other hours are by chance or appointment. We also have our workshop schedule posted on our website.

The students’ showcase is a space for you to share your mosaic creations and accolades! Please send photos and information on your projects and exhibitions, and I will publish them as space allows.
